Current Favorites

Back to back blog posts, and one being a real post at that?! I know, it's kind of shocking.

I've discovered some random favorite things lately and thought "man, I should share these with blogland," so here I am, sharing.

1. Two awesome lip products
I've always been a bright lipstick girl for two reasons: 1. I've never found a neutral that works and 2. lipgloss is sticky. However, I hated how drying lipsticks were and typically I would end up slathering on chapstick or not reapplying any lip color and looking like a zombie with stained, flaky lips.

Enter the lipstick that changed the way I viewed lipsticks and neutrals (you mean they don't have to be flesh toned??) and the lipbutter that changed the way I viewed glosses and neutrals: Mary Kay's True Dimensions Lipstick in Exotic Mango (it may not look neutral but on me it totally is) and NYX's Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee (definitely totally neutral), respectively. The lipstick is insanely moisturizing and seems to last forever, which I totally love. The gloss isn't a bit sticky, and gives nice color instead of being super sheer.

2. Awesome afternoon snack
I'm not going to lie, I saw a blog with SlimFast's meal replacement bar in Have Your Cake (birthday cake, basically) and instantly got excited: cake for breakfast? Sign me up. Well, no amount of searching has allowed me to find them in my area. Instead, I found an alternative: cake as my afternoon snack bar: Kidz Zone Perfect snack bars in Yellow Cupcake. I'm typically not a fan of meal replacement or protein snack bars because I think they taste like chalk and who wants to eat chalk besides a first grader? Not me! I don't usually have a specific time I go to lunch - it may be 11, it may be 1 - but if it's 11, that's a really long time between lunch and dinner...and sometimes I might get so hungry that while I'm cooking dinner I "sample" what I'm making...or whatever is in the cabinet next to what I'm making, which really does no good. My afternoon hangry-ness has been gone with my delicious little cupcake friend. Score!

3. Awesome drink
Dr. Pepper and Diet Cokes are not my friend. Or, to be more accurate, they're not my hiney's friend. So, in an attempt to quit drinking so much soda and infuse some healthy into my life (and my husband's, since I do the grocery shopping!), I picked up Sparkling Ice on my last trip to the store. They give me the fizz I love from pop but no calories or sodium. I haven't met a flavor I don't like yet (I haven't tried watermelon but I don't like watermelon things anyway).

4. Awesome face brush
A few months ago I was introduced to Mary Kay by a coworker's wife who I now consider a sweet friend, and after months of saying no, I finally tried it all - skincare, makeup, the works. I saw a dramatic difference and actually signed up to sell it because I love the products so much. So then, I bought the Skinvigorate brush, because 1. it's got an awesome name, 2. I'd heard great things about it and 3. I got a discount. 3 was the real reason because let's be real, I love a discount. Have you ever washed your face at night and been like "done!" - probably so, or at least I hope. I washed my face like normal before using the Skinvigorate brush for the first time (because I didn't want to get it dirty...silly me), then washed it again with the brush and was astonished at the amount of gunk (makeup, dirt, etc) that came off my face! "But it was clean!!!" I told myself. Apparently not, because I still to this day am amazed every day at how much cleaner my face gets with the brush. Plus, who wouldn't want to feel like your skin is coming alive and freshened every time you wash your face? Duh.

5. Awesome song
Matt and I are searching for a church to go to close to our new home, and when we went to one several weeks ago, a song was just so amazing that it's stuck with me for almost an entire month! It's Let It Be Jesus, by Passion. I finally downloaded it a few days ago because streaming it from YouTube every time I was in my car was eating our data plan.

And that's it! I've got a few more wedding posts planned, and I hope to be blogging regularly again very soon :)

PS - I did not link to my personal Mary Kay website because I don't have a site - I don't sell enough product to make it worth the cost at this time :) All opinions of the products are my own. If you're interested in products or information, email me and I'd be happy to help!

Get Your Sparkle On

Happy Friday!!

Is it just me, or has this week seriously lasted forever? I'm just glad OSU plays tomorrow, I get to be in Stillwater (and that OU lost last night...#SorryImNotSorry).

Anyway, a few of my favorite things from the last week (ahem, or month).
  1. I've got a new jam, ya'll. Thanks to a coworker's 4 year old daughter loving Barbie music, I was introduced to Get Your Sparkle On. Since then, I've made Matt listen to it several times (sorry about that...) and of course I play it every morning before cheer practice! It's positive and clean and talks about sparkles, so what's not to love?

  2. My mom, ladies and gentlemen, made some DELICIOUS dinner last night. I had a bit of popcorn at the JH game but that was NOT about to cut it, so when I got home I heated up "some chicken thing mom had cooking in the crockpot all day," as my dad put it. It ended up being the Hawaiian Chicken I put together for her Freezer Club Meal Swap two weeks ago! She does this super cool swap with 3 other ladies and we get 4 delicious meals in our freezer to heat up through the week. When you want to eat a meal, you follow their instructions for cooking, but it's all already put together so there's practically no work for you other than turning on the crock pot or oven. These ladies are geniuses, I'm telling you.
Here's what you need to make this delicious creation:
1/2 bag frozen chicken tenders (like the big bags you get from the grocery store...sorry this isn't exactly precise)
1 15oz. can of crushed pineapple (don't drain it!)
    1/2t ground ginger
    1T minced garlic
    1/4c soy sauce
Put all of that into a crock pot liner and stick it in your crockpot on low heat all day. Serve over brown rice and with some steamed veggies. I didn't have the rice or veggies last night (I wasn't going to eat a whole meal after the game!), but the chicken and pineapple with those other flavors were so delicious.
  3. Herbalife Pumpkin Spice Latte. Um, hello. I ordered some last night (finally, yes I know Wacey) and I can't wait to get it in. Twice this week I stopped by New U Nutrition because I was running late in the morning and too lazy to make my shakes the night before. Kim made me the most delicious shakes and I was SOLD on the special limited edition flavor. Now if it'll just hurry and get here!

  4. Doing Herbalife with my family. It's so much easier to make & drink shakes twice a day when I'm not the only one in the house doing it. Dad is getting creative and making up recipes. Mom is doing shakes. I'm thankful to my family for making the commitment to getting healthy with me. So THANKS FAMIlY! :)
  5. Red River Ski Area pictures. They have snow and it makes me insanely happy! We're going there in December and I'm counting down! Now, I just need to get new ski pants and find everything else I need for the week, so I'm not actually totally ready, but I just can't wait. And looking at pictures of beautiful snow on that fun mountain just makes me want to leave tomorrow (even though skiing doesn't start for 19 more days. Countdown, much?).
Have a happy weekend, ya'll! Now go get your sparkle on! :)

Regional Radio Star {in training}

It's finally Friday - and yes, I mean finally. It's been such a crazy {but fun} week. We had a big event and a HUGE event at work this week, so when I say I'm a little tired, I think it's completely justified. I have a thousand pictures to go through, edit and post before I leave work today, plus all the other normal things non-event related. I was so tired I almost forgot to wear orange today. Don't worry, Pokes, I remembered. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to a good night of sleep tonight!

When I left you Monday, I was headed to bed so I'd be rested for 7:30 am meetings. Guys, I'm so not a morning person. But, getting to work that early wasn't all bad...
For those of you who don't know, I listen to the Sports Animal all.the.time. I think the Morning Animals are awesome. People know if I'm in my office or not by if they can hear people talking sports as they walk by my door (I've strategically hidden myself from view thanks to constant interruptions while designing). Anyway, part of my job is social media, so when my dear friends the morning animals were having probs posting to their Facebook page and requested help from listeners, clearly I called to help. Lump was so super nice and said my name several times on air and tweeted me back. I won't lie when I say I felt a little important.

On Wednesday, Jersey Mike's wrapped up their Month of Giving with a huge day of giving - all proceeds from OKC locations benefited the Food Bank. I got to go out and visit a few locations to take pictures, and while I was there, I was asked to be on-air with KOMA! I was interviewed about what Jersey Mike's was doing for the day. Clearly after that interview & my shout outs on the Sports Animal, a twitter bio update was in order:

Yes, that reads "Wannabe Regional Radio Star."
Wednesday evening, Matt & I took Thabo on an adventure to Petsmart. Now that he's all healed from a broken bone & surgery, he's quite rambunctious! He did enjoy sitting in this box and chewing the sides of it. I also bought Molly Jo some treats and decorated chew bones to play with, and I'm not sure she likes either - the treats are healthy for old lady dogs (clearly she's going to be bummed for a healthy treat!) and she just stares at the bones and hasn't done a thing to actually chew on them. And they're even decorated in pink. Weirdo.

And yesterday, oh man. Let's just say it was 14 long hours of work and fun. I played paparazzi so of course I'll be sharing some pictures over on my work Flickr account, and I already shared some fun on our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The event was at the Cowboy & National Western Heritage Museum (for those of us who are old, the Cowboy Hall of Fame). It's such a beautiful venue, and the event was a great success.

By the time you're reading this, I hope to have edited a few hundred pictures. I'm looking forward to having dinner with my sweet friend Ashley tonight before she takes off on a new, exciting adventure.

If you're in the area, I'd like to invite you to join me for church on Sunday! If you're unable to physically be there, you can watch online here. I'm so thankful that Jesus did indeed pay it all. I'm so humbled to serve such a wonderful, loving Savior.

"Oh praise the One who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead!"

Stock show season?

Guys, I guess it really is stock show season - not fall, autumn, or as I call it, football season. How do I know this? Well, every day, the search results on my little blog increase for one song - Livestock Show (because of this post from earlier this year) - and one very disturbing search term. I'm assuming these searches are coming from some ag students needing music for the drive to Tulsa in a few weeks and/or they're practicing judging. At least that's what I'm pretending. Anyway, on to more fun.

This weekend was a blast. Friday night I had dinner with one of my sweet g-littles in Norman. She happened to be an athletic trainer for the football team last year and got a little bling when the Cowboys won the Big 12. She brought it along to dinner and I had the honor of trying this monster of a ring on!

I also had a slumber party with one of my favorite tiny humans, Pailynn! We ate the inside of an Oreo, played with toys and watched the Rangers. I love that she is starting to figure out how to say my name - "Ae" is a perfectly acceptable form of "Shae!"

Saturday, Catie and I watched the 6A state cheer competition and went to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Just after ordering our cokes, we were creeped on by a man old enough to be our dad. He and his group had left the table, and after it was cleaned off and we were seated, he returned, making a scene about them clearing his table while he was in the restroom. He sat down and demanded another drink to replace the one they supposedly took away. Meanwhile, his coworkers were supposedly in the car waiting on him. After about five minutes, they too showed up, and thankfully they were much nicer than their "pal" (and very obviously didn't want to be hanging out with him - awkward...). Finally, several outlandish stories later, he left, much to our relief! No pictures to document this evening, as I left my phone at home - sorry! Just believe me, it was a very awkward adventure.

The whole reason I was in Stillwater this weekend was for an event for work! It ended up being a great time and I had so much fun with coworkers, even though I was beyond exhausted by the time it was over. I love my job so much that the tiredness and the wind that made my hair gross didn't even really matter, though I will say, my bed never has looked so inviting. :)

Friday's Faves

Happy Friday! I am so looking forward to this weekend. It brings time with Pailynn & the Voegeli fam, a trip to Stillwater, time with friends and what should be a fun event for my job! It also brings the birthdays of two of my favorite guys (my brothers), remembering my Great-Grandma Sparks on what would have been her 95th birthday, and the last weekend before basketball rules our house for several months! I am dreading a weekend without Cowboy football, but it might be nice not to have one more thing packed into an already busy weekend (though I am more than ready to see the Pokes in action again!). Anyway, I wanted to quickly share a few of my favorite things this week before bidding you adieu for the time being.

1. I downloaded iOS6 to my iPad and Siri is cracking me up. I can't wait for my iPhone (which you are supposed to help me dress, btw) to be even more entertained, but here's a sample of the fun we're having already:

Also, Siri calls me Princess.

2. I asked Siri to play some music, and she played Good Night for Dancing. I forgot how much I love this song, and it quickly made its way back into my heart, deserving a spot on my Friday's faves. Well done, Siri.

3. I love this verse, so much.

4. I feel naked if I don't have my nails painted. Thanks to Essie's No Chips Ahead, my nail polish has been much less chippy lately, which makes me super happy. It's the little things, ya'll.

Sorry I'm ending on four. That just seems awkward, because people don't have top four lists, they have top three or five or ten, but I really don't have anything else to add other than the one thing that I want to be doing more than anything in the next few months:

5. SNOW SKIING! I just love the snow, the cold, the fun.

Ahem, momma jo. Make it happen. Please. :)

what I'm loving

I'm a little late to the #WhatImLovingWednedsay party, but I think we all know I like to make my entrances memorable. But now you have it, at long last, things I'm loving this week. Hooray!

1. I'm pretty sure I've said something about it before, but theBalm's Staniac is awesome. I don't like lip things to be heavy, to be sticky or to leave awkwardly in the middle of the day. This stuff meets all my expectations and then some.
theBalm Staniac

2. These boots. I don't even have the words to say how much I love/need them. I was just telling Caylee and Kim how badly I need a pair of black boots, and these would be the perfect pair.

3. Fall outfits that I can recreate with things already in my closet!

4. This song.

And last, but certainly not least...
5. Cowboy football season is one month away!!!!

It sure left it's mark on us

I took a too short refreshing drive this weekend around the place I called home for three and half of the best years of my life. SO many memories were made with the absolute best friends a girl could ever ask for. I have been so. incredibly. blessed.

And go.

I have 20 minutes to write this before Will Rogers makes me pay for WiFi access. What, no free WiFi, OKC? #notcool. Anyway, onward. I've already wasted 30 precious seconds.

Several bloggers do a high five/what I'm loving Friday, and because this week has been so awesome, I'm joining them. #peerpressure.

1. Skype
My family went on vacation, without me, this week. How dare them! ;) however, thanks to modern technology, we stayed connected. I got to see the train car they stayed in the first night, and we all got to laugh at Molly trying to figure out why mom and dad were in the screen.

20120629-173201.jpg
Also, don't worry, I'm not totally left out, I'm flying to meet them right now!

2. Big little dates
Yesterday was awesome and gets two posts. This is part one. I haven't got to see my adopted little Conner since.....like Christmas. We finally got to hang out over McAlister's grilled cheese sandwiches last night. Conner, hang out again, soon, please. Actually you don't get a choice :)

3. Pug snugs
Molly was missing mom, dad and the boys, so I got a million snuggles from her cute little self, which totally made me smile. There's nothing cuter than a little pug face.

4. New job
So, I started a new job this week (which is why my family went on vacation without me). So far it has been so awesome. A little overwhelming at first, about I think that is to be expected. By day 2, I knew there was nowhere else I wanted to be, and more importantly, nowhere else I was supposed to be. It is perfect.

5. LAINEY TIME!!!!!!
Last night, Laine and I went to the Randy Rogers Band show at Riverwind. It was so fun, mostly because I was with one of my favorite people. We always have the best time and the best talks, and there's nothing better than good music with a great friend.

Okay, my flight is boarding and my WiFi is about to be revoked. Wheels up to Chicago!

PS - I love my iPad too.

Update: Chicago doesn't even give you 20 free minutes, and I'm stuck here for two hours before my next flight. Oklahoma, you win. and so does 4g tethering from my phone.

#QuikTripLove

If you've ever been to Tulsa, I'd bet you've seen, and likely stopped at, a few QuikTrips. I never understood Tulsa's love affair with QT until I had one of their delicious fountain drinks, filled my car with their luxury gas, and ate their gourmet junk food (donut holes...in a cup!). No, seriously Tulsa, why do you love them so much again? I think you love QT as much as Seattle loves coffee.

When we go snow skiing, on our drive to our fluffy white destination, we play a game - Windmill! Basically, it's like Slug Bug, except there's no hitting involved and instead of yelling for cute cars you yell for windmills. For all you Tulsans, do you play QuickTrip!?

Side note: Speaking of, if you ever go snow skiing, I hope you don't lose your humor. Ahem.

In addition to attempting to grasp the concept of #QuikTripLove (#fail), I filled my Saturday evening with basketball! Saturday night was the first game of the regular season for the Tulsa Shock, and Caylee & I went to the game! Afterward, we stopped by River Spirit to see Caylee's sister and check on the Thunder score, because of course I couldn't miss a single game of my #ThunderCrush. I'm not a gambler (hello, I'd much rather go shopping), but they gave me $15 in free play. I left the casino up $35 after playing just $1 of my own money and singing along to Summer Lovin' on the Grease game. #winning

I stayed with Caylee at her sister's house, and I think they imported this tiny bed specifically for their fun sized house guest (me).

So why the random trip to Tulsa? This past weekend was the wedding of my GG Big, Shannon! She is one of the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful (inside AND out) ladies I've ever met. I met Shannon on the first night of Phi Lamb's rush in 2008, and instantly wanted to be her friend. She was just so nice! I was ecstatic when I found out I was in her phamily and treasured all the advice she gave and time I got to spend with her that year.

Take a look at that hair. I worked hard on getting it to look that awesome and I will totes brag about it. Hey Tulsa, thanks for a great weekend.

PS - unrelated, but it's about Tulsa, and King George is singing. #love

A little music for your Saturday

In 6 days, Lainey and I are going to see Josh Abbott Band. We've literally been counting down for two months, and I am beyond excited. I just need to teach him how to two step!

5.14.2012

Hi, there!

Are you from Cassie's blog? If so, welcome! If not, go check her out! Cassie featured me in a blog post because she's doing something awesome and I got to help. Cassie is raising money to be a St. Jude Hero and is going to run the half in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon! So she's pretty cool (I don't just say that because we share a birthday, though that doesn't hurt!).

Sometime around last Thursday, I began thinking to myself "Self, I really hope to sleep in on Saturday. Just until 8:30 would be fine with me. Oh, and wouldn't it be nice to spend some time by the pool reading a book? And don't forget, you really wanted to ride horses this weekend too. Yes, self, we should relax this weekend."

Friday night was the AmPo FFA Chapter's end of the year banquet. I hadn't been to an FFA banquet since 2007, which was the last time I presided over a meeting, wore my jacket and felt the overwhelming pride I had in being an FFA member. As soon as Charlie, their outgoing president, tapped the gavel, the chills were back. I am so proud to be an adopted member of the Amber Pocassett group, and being at their banquet, celebrating all their incredible accomplishments this year, was amazing. I might be more excited than Kaden is for him to finally be an FFA member next year! I hope his experience (and Kale's, when the time comes) is even more incredible than mine was.

Saturday, I slept in!! I don't think I even woke up until 9:30. It was great. And, as you've probably heard a few times by now, Saturday night was the celebration for Nathan's Oklahoma Sunrise album! If you'd like to see pictures, look here. I am just so excited to see Nathan chasing dreams and succeeding! (It's halftime of the Thunder game, and I had the album playing on my computer, and I just heard it start playing it downstairs too. #SuperFans. Haha.)

Sunday was MOTHER'S DAY! I love my mom. In fact, I love her so much that I already wrote about her. We went to my Aunt Kandi's house and had great fun with the family, eating delicious food (hello, fruit salsa!) and jumping around with tiny humans.

Now, for the really relaxing part of the weekend.

Bliss.

Update: And I rode horses Sunday too. How could I forget that!?

Oklahoma Sunrise

Last night, Nathan Burris celebrated the release of his debut album, Oklahoma Sunrise, with a party at Grady's Pub & Grille (#GPG) in Tuttle. Great food, great people, celebrating great music. Not a better way to spend a Saturday night. Download the album here. Seriously.

Update: Oklahoma Sunrise on iTunes
